3rd Grader Wins $1,050 for PS89 on the Rocket Club Math Game Show

Rocket Club Math, the after-school tutoring program headquartered at 23 Warren Street in Tribeca, just released the first episode of their new game show. Throughout the show, Rocket Club members tackle advanced math questions surpassing their grade level, and with each correct answer, they earn funds for their school.

In the inaugural episode, Rocket Club Math put the spotlight on JoJo, a bright, entrepreneurial, and giggly 3rd-grade student from PS89 in Tribeca. The end result? JoJo solved all of the questions correctly, earning a total of $1,050 that was donated by Rocket Club Math to her school PS89.

Rocket Club Math’s Founder Alex Hodara chose JoJo as the first contestant of the show because, at just 8-years-old, she has already started her own business; a t-shirt company called World of Wizardy. Hodara themed all of the game show’s questions around the finances of JoJo’s business.

The pinnacle of the show came with the final question worth $500. JoJo showcased her understanding of the market capitalization formula, a concept she had recently learned in class. The question posed was, "You take your t-shirt company public, pricing your stock at $20 per share with a total of 100,000 shares. What is the market capitalization of your company?"

Rocket Club Math has locations in Tribeca, the Upper East Side, and the Upper West Side. They will be releasing more episodes in the coming months to highlight more members and give back to schools across the city.
